Fun Tips for Sharing Love & CozinessThis February
February is a month that often spotlights romance, love, relationships and staying cozy. At least it is if you celebrate Valentine’s Day with your sweetie. But with COVID-19 still playing a major part in many of our lives, celebrations outside the home may be few and far between indefinitely. Which got us thinking: How can you still celebrate with the ones you love? Simple! We’ve got some great ideas on how you can make this the best Valentine’s Day yet—even if you are staying in! As the No.1 heater installation company in Chesapeake, your friends at Miller’s know the best secrets to staying warm and safe. And, we’re not too bad in the romance department either! Here are five ways to stay warm and romantic this month—sprinkled with some home heating tips to keep your space safe.
1. Organize a wine night by the fire.
Everyone loves the soft, calming atmosphere of a good fire. If you have a fireplace, enjoying an evening fire while sipping wine is the perfect way to create a romantic mood. Of course, if you have a real fireplace, you’ll want to double check the damper first. If your damper is faulty, smoke won’t escape when the fireplace is in use and cold air will seep into your home and increase your heating bills when it’s not in use. If you own a gas fireplace, be sure to schedule maintenance each year to ensure it’s in top shape.
2. Cook dinner and serve it by candlelight.
Cook your sweetie a candlelit dinner! Enhance the mood by hanging white lights outdoors on your patio or deck so you can enjoy a twinkling glow as you enjoy a quiet evening of conversation. Quick tip: If your dining area is surrounded by windows, be sure they are sealed properly. Caulk or weather stripping prevents air leaks from entering your safe space—while also saving you money on those energy bills.
3. Make a playlist and dance the night away.
Are you a music lover? Turn the TV off on Valentine’s night and turn on the music. Create a playlist of your significant other’s favorite love songs and dance in your socks on the living room rug! If your feet are cold from dancing in your socks, you might want to reconsider your family room’s furniture layout. Be sure your sofa or bookshelves aren’t blocking your heating vents. This prevents warm air from entering your space.
4. Watch your sweetie’s favorite movie.
Snuggling on the couch watching a favorite movie is the perfect Valentine’s Day pastime. Grab a mug of hot chocolate, a blanket and some popcorn and put your feet up for a few hours. If you’re using space heaters to stay cozy, be sure they are three feet away from your blanket or anything flammable, including curtains. As always, unplug space heaters when you’re finished using them.
5. Pour your heart into heating maintenance.
OK. OK. We know this one isn’t the most romantic of gestures, but it’s surely the most practical! If your partner is always the one setting up the annual heating tune-up, beat them to the punch and schedule it for them (and maybe even pay the bill, too). A checkup from Miller’s is the best way to keep your family cozy and safe for the remainder of the winter season.
