True or False HVAC Quiz
How well do you know your HVAC system? You’re about to find out!
1. Air filters only need to be changed once a year.
False. Dirt and grime on your filter clogs your system, reduces airflow and causes it to work harder. You can boost your system’s efficiency and improve your indoor air by changing your filters every three months.
2. A bigger HVAC system is always better.
False. Just as you need a pair of jeans that is the proper size for your body, you need an HVAC system that is the proper size for your home. Systems that are too large will cycle off and on, which decreases efficiency and costs you money and energy. Our HVAC specialists can help you find the perfect size for you home when it’s time for a replacement.
3. It matters where you place your thermostat.
True. Placing your thermostat in rooms that get direct sunlight or in kitchens where stoves can heat up are the worst placements for thermostats. Instead, make sure your installer places your thermostat on an interior wall of a room where you spend quality time—such as the family room. Keep it away from drafty windows and vents for the best possible reading.
4. Closing the vents in certain rooms will increase energy efficiency.
False. While most homeowners’ intentions are good when they do this, closing vents isn’t always a good idea. Closed vents can actually increase air pressure in your air ducts—and may even cause leaks at the seams.
5. You can extend the lifespan of your system by getting your air ducts cleaned.
True. Getting your air ducts professionally cleaned reduces the buildup of dirt and debris and also helps your family breathe in cleaner air. Again, when your system doesn’t have to work twice as hard due to dirty ducts, it will last longer.
