These Cozy Tips Are Budget Friendly, Too!
Looking to find cozy comfort in the new year?
You aren’t alone! Many Virginia Beach residents are trying to uncover ways to add extra warmth to their homes and boost their home’s energy efficiency this winter.
Fortunately, Miller’s understands. After all, we’re homeowners ourselves, so we appreciate the importance of saving money while keeping warm!
So, what do you say? Are you ready to learn some insider tips that’ll make your home feel perfectly safe, warm and highly efficient this season? We thought so. Here are eight amazing ideas:
- Use rugs.
Is your home filled with lots of hardwood flooring? Invest in some fashionable rugs to help warm up the space. Add fashion and style with some shag rugs and keep your feet and toes warm. It’s a win-win, or, shall we say, a “warm-warm” situation all around. - Consider a fireplace plug.
Here’s a stat we bet you didn’t know: Your home can lose up to 20 percent of its warm air through the fireplace. Yikes! You may not know there are fireplace plugs you can purchase that help seal the flue and keep warm air indoors. Want to know more? Contact your local fireplace manufacturer for more information. - Keep the oven door open.
Cooking every night in the kitchen? When that tasty meal is complete, leave the oven door open to let the extra heat fill your house. It feels oh-so good! - Utilize plastic bubble wrap or plastic window coverings.
Got windows that are out of sight but are still letting the cold in? Since you and your guests won’t see them anyway, seal those warm air thieves with plastic wrap or plastic window coverings. Even saving a little warm air goes a long way. - Reverse your ceiling fans.
Do you have ceiling fans? If so, reverse them so they’re moving clockwise. This brings warm air from the top of the room back down to the living area. - Use draft dodgers.
No, not those anti-war folks from the 1960s. Use towels or blankets as draft dodgers and place them in front of doors to keep the cold air at bay. These are especially helpful in front of doors that lead to the garage, where cold air seeps in easily. - Get foiled.
Have an older home with a radiator? If it’s next to an external wall, try attaching some aluminum foil behind the radiator. The reflection from the foil will divert heat back into the room, rather than having it absorbed into the wall. - Move furniture.
If you have vents or radiators that are being blocked by furniture, it’s time to redecorate. Take inventory of how your furniture is laid out. If you notice warm air is being trapped or blocked, move your furniture to allow the air to circulate better.
